Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Many parents struggle with the idea that their child is “worse” than other children.
Or that they are “bad parents” because their child is demonstrating undesirable behaviors.
Some, when their child is displaying undesirable behaviors, are afraid they may “grow up to be bad”.
Defiance, tantrums, and other forms of aggression, can be addressed using PCIT. By the time they reach out for help, parents are often feeling fed up, frustrated, aggravated, and hopeless.
They wonder whether they are doing the right thing as a parent, or where they might have gone wrong.
My approach follows the typical PCIT guidelines, which include an observation of the parent-child dyad playing together, a parent teaching session, and then several parent-child therapy sessions where I observe the dyad playing together and then provide real-time coaching to the parent via earbuds.
Parents are then encouraged to practice the skills learned in between sessions.
PCIT is most appropriate for children between the ages of 2-7.
However, many of the skills used/learned can be generalized to older children as well.

My approach follows the typical PCIT guidelines, which includes a combination of observation, teaching, and real-time coaching via earbuds.
Parents/caregivers are encouraged to practice the skills learned in between sessions at home.

Parents/caregivers can come from any combination of backgrounds, gender, relationship status, etc.
They just need a willingness to practice the skills learned in order to help manage their child’s behavior more successfully.
PCIT is a great way to help shape your child’s behavior in a positive direction.
