General Questions

Where is the office located? Or are you virtual?

I am virtual only at this time.

What are your office hours?

My hours are: Mondays, Tuesdays and every other Friday from 9:30am-3pm (with my last session of the day beginning at 2pm); Wednesdays from 9:30am-5pm, Thursdays from 8am-5pm, and every other Friday from 8am-5pm

How long is a typical session?

Sessions are generally 50 minutes long.

What do I do to get started and make an appointment?

Email is the best way to get in touch with me quickly to set up a 15-minute consultation or an appointment.

What is the hourly fee?

50-minute individual sessions are $190. 60-minute family/couple’s sessions are $220. I also offer a sliding scale for individuals/families on a case-by-case basis.

How do I pay?

I accept payment through Venmo or Paypal. Additional payment information will be provided once we have had our first session together.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept private insurance.

Can I cancel an appointment?

I request 48 hours notice to cancel an appointment. Of course, I also realize that unexpected circumstances may arise and those situations are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

What is a free initial phone consultation?

I offer a 15-minute phone call prior to a client setting up a session with me to see if I feel like a good fit for you and/or your child/family.

What is the age range of your clients?

I work with a wide range of age groups. I see children, teens, young adults, couples, and families.

What can I expect in the first session?

Generally, first sessions are mostly about me getting to know the client and vice versa. Specifically, I like to know what is bringing the client to therapy, symptoms the client may be experiencing, and how the client is being impacted. I usually like the client to be in charge of sessions overall and the direction in which they go, so I will follow the client’s lead for the most part.

What is therapy like with you?

Personally, I find that therapy is effective as more of a conversation at times (especially for teens and younger children). I believe that clients should be in charge of their own treatment, and I am just someone who is available to provide support, feedback, suggestions, and strategies to help manage symptoms.

How long will I be in therapy?

This really depends on the person and what they might be going through. Some people find resolution to their symptoms in a few months; others like to continue meeting with me to have a “check-in” point; and I have some clients who have been meeting with me for years! There is no specific timeline.

Do I have to tell you everything?

Clients definitely do not have to tell me everything. However, I do tell clients that you get out of therapy what you put in. So, if there are things that a client might be holding back that are contributing to their symptoms, then I would likely explore their reason(s) for holding back.

Do you offer video or phone sessions?

I am video only at this time.

I’ve never been to therapy or shared personal issues before. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Quite the opposite, actually! In my opinion, it takes a very strong individual to make the decision to reach out for support, and I am always honored to help someone through that process.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The main difference is that a therapist is a neutral party - someone who can offer a non-biased opinion and provide strategies to help with any issues that may be going on.

Is our work confidential?

Yes, our work together is confidential. However, therapists are also mandated reporters. This means that if I feel that you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or others, or if a child discloses potential abuse/neglect of themselves, someone else (i.e., a friend at school), or an elder, these are situations in which I would have to break confidentiality and make a report. I will always disclose to my client if/when I need to make a report so that there is full transparency.

How long have you been in practice?

I have been working in the mental health field for 15 years. I have had my own private practice since 2019.

What are your strengths as a therapist?

I believe that I have a very direct approach, but in a kind and compassionate way. I am open, honest, and respectful of everyone who chooses to work with me. Clients have shared that they feel comfortable talking to me because I am relatable and help them feel seen, heard, and understood.

Have you been in therapy yourself?

Yes! I truly believe that being in individual therapy myself gives me the opportunity to experience what it is like from the client perspective.

What is your educational background?

I have a Master’s Degree in Child Development from the University of California at Davis (2007) as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Jose State University (2014).! I truly believe that being in individual therapy myself gives me the opportunity to experience what it is like from the client perspective.

Do you prescribe medications?

No.

Are you licensed?

Yes, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I became licensed in 2017.

Do you take notes?

Yes, I do take notes during my sessions. They are often very minimal and somewhat vague in nature, but they are helpful from week to week (or, in most cases, biweekly) for me to keep track of client progress as well as certain things that have been discussed that we may want to circle back to.
